Advocacy Awareness Training
“Mental health advocacy has been developing in the UK over the last decade as one way of challenging the discrimination faced by users and survivors of the mental health system…advocacy in all its forms seeks to ensure that people are able to speak out to express their views and to defend their rights”
(“With Us in Mind”, 2006)
Rochdale & District Mind Advocacy Service provides advocacy support for residents in Rochdale, Bury, Tameside & Glossop, who are in hospital or living in the local community.
We provide awareness training for those who work closely with Mental Health Service Users, NHS Staff, CMHT’s, CRT, Social Workers, and supporting agencies. Anyone who works within a role that could refer to advocacy for support.
Our training covers information about:
- Independent Mental Health Act Advocacy (IMHAA) for young people, adults and older persons.
- Generic Advocacy, Non Instructed Advocacy and IMCA.
- What an advocate does, how an advocate can assist service users, and how we hope to enhance the ability for service users to self advocate.
We provide training to improve the understanding of advocacy, improve relationships between agencies, increase awareness, provide a better understanding of statutory duties under the Mental Health Act and reduce stigma.
We provide awareness training in Rochdale at the Mind Wellbeing Centre and at our Offices in Tameside. We can provide sessions within local services and organisations. If you are interested in booking a session for your staff or attending a session please contact
