If you are interested in the work that Rochdale and District Mind is doing there are lots of ways to get involved.

Service User Involvement Rochdale and District Mind is committed to service user involvement at all levels both within the organisation and within wider mental health services. There are various groups you can become involved in that have different activities and functions.

You could become a service user representative if you wish. You can get involved as much or as little as you like.

Borough Wide User Forum (BWUF)

The BWUF is a service user group which gives a central access point for the views of mental health service users and carers of Rochdale, Littleborough, Middleton & Heywood to feed directly into local mental health provider agencies.   The group is chaired and run by a committee of mental health service users & carers with the support of Chris Weir (BWUF Project Support Assistant) and Hilary Myers (Service User Development Worker from Rochdale & District Mind).

Everyone welcome (Please note:  If you are a mental health professional your attendance at Forum meetings will be by agreement of the Committee).

Supported Housing

Rochdale Mental Health Supported Housing Schemes encourage Service User involvement.

This is done through tenant meetings and tenant representatives who are supported by the user involvement worker to play an active role in the planning and delivery of supported housing. Rochdale & District Mind support user involvement in mental health in Tameside and Glossop.

Campaigning

Although Rochdale and District Mind is primarily a service provider through the Mind network which enables the people who use its services to aid their recovery, we recognise the crucial role that campaigning plays in improving services. We endeavour to support staff and service users who undertake campaigning work which is mainly centred around local issues of concern. We also support Mind and other national campaigns organising events and publicity often using a media as a means to raise awareness.

Mental Health Awareness  Focus on mental health awareness training. The focus is a non-profit organisation which aims to promote mental health awareness within local communities. By offering training that reflect the vast range of mental health service users from their point of view and which offers resources and education in current practice.

The group providing training, aims to be a service user led service which offers its trainers and contributors support and skills development opportunities in order to develop individual potential. Focus’ aims and objectives are to:

  • Provide training education opportunities within the local communities in mental health awareness.
  • Deliver training that reflects the diverse experiences of people who suffer from mental distress.
  • Challenge the misconceptions and barriers that are faced by people who experience mental distress at whatever degree.
  • Deliver training that includes and reflects the mental health service user/sufferer point of view.
  • Be as accurate and informative as possible in all training.
  • Be flexible, fair and inclusive in our approach to training and delivery of training.
  • Encourage service user contributors to training to receive reward in recognition of their services in accordance to the Department of Update training in line with the changes and developments within mental health resources and provision.
