Mental Health First Aid

 

Mental Health First Aid is a two-day training course that teaches you how to recognise symptoms of mental health problems, how to deal with a crisis situation and how to spot the first signs of someone developing mental ill health.
 
We also offer Mental Health First Aid Lite. MHFA Lite is a 3 hour introductory mental health awareness course that can be delivered to up to 25 people. Because of its short duration it is not meant as a substitute for the full MHFA course.
 
Our team of MHFA Instructors are fully qualified and accredited with Mental Health First Aid England.

 

Where we offer courses :

Training courses are held here at the Mind Wellbeing Centre. The cost per delegate is £180 including refreshments and lunch.

On completion of the two-day course all participants will receive their MHFA manual and certificate of attendance.

We can also arrange bespoke training courses at your own venue/workplace for groups of staff of up to 20 individuals-minimum number of delegates is 12.

You supply:

The room, seating and table for delegates, refreshments, lunch, flipchart and flipchart paper.

Who should attend?

The training is particularly important and beneficial for frontline workers - anyone who has regular contact with the public.

Why should you do the training?
People who are trained in Mental Health First Aid can help to:

  • provide comfort to a person experiencing mental health problems
  • provide help to prevent a mental health problem becoming more serious 
  • preserve life where a person may be a danger to themselves or others 
  • promote the recovery of good mental health 
  • raise awareness of mental health issues in the community 
  • reduce the associated stigma and discrimination

What does the training cover?

The training covers a range of topics relating to mental health including:

  • common mental health problems
  • the 5 steps of mental health first aid 
  • depression 
  • suicide 
  • anxiety disorders 
  • panic attacks 
  • psychotic disorders. 

On completion of the two-day course:

All participants will receive their MHFA manual and certificate of attendance.

Mental Health First Aid Lite

MHFA Lite is a 3 hour introductory mental health awareness course that can be delivered to up to 25 people. Because of its short duration it is not meant as a substitute for the full MHFA course (these are around 12 hours long) but will teach you:

  • What mental health is.
  • About common mental health problems.
  • About supporting others and yourself when experiencing mental health problems.
  • How and why positive and negative mental health affects business.

Learning objectives:

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • dentify the discrimination surrounding mental health problems
  • define mental health & some mental health problems
  • relate to people's experiences
  • help support people with mental health problems
  • begin developing a business case for promoting positive mental health in the workplace
  • look after your own mental health.

How much does it cost?

£75.00 per delegate.

On completion of the course all participants will receive their certificate of attendance.

Participants will receive a certificate of attendance and a manual with further information and resources.
