Mental Health First Aid

On Thursday 26th January 2012, Rochdale and District Mind’s Chief Executive, Tricia Hornby, attended a ceremony at the House of Lords where she was presented with an award from Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA).

This ‘Mental Health First Aid Champions’ award presented by Lord Patel and Simon Weston recognizes those who have worked hard to promote mental health and wellbeing and helps increase understanding of mental health issues in the wider public domain in England. Rochdale and District Mind is a champion of mental health first aid training and have three members of staff qualified in delivering these two day courses.

Tricia Hornby said:

Most people are familiar with First Aid Training for physical health but up to now mental health has been largely ignored. We are pleased that we can now offer this training as we know that knowing how to respond to someone experiencing mental distress is just as important as physical health first aid.

ISO9001 (International Organisation for Standardization)

ISO9001 is an internationally recognized, independently certified, quality standard.  Rochdale and District Mind, after a successful final assessment this week with the British Standards Institute, have been recommended for registration. The Charity is leading the way in achieving this quality standard for mental health organisations.  BSI has recognized that Rochdale and District Mind provide high quality services to local people with mental health needs.

BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) accreditation

Rochdale and District Mind are delighted to announce that in January 2012 their Counseling service was awarded accreditation by the BACP. This accreditation provides validation for the professionalism and quality of the Counseling service. This highly prestigious award has been achieved by only a handful of local Mind associations across the Country.

Tricia Hornby said “It is a testament to the hard work of the Counselling team, which consists of thirty volunteers and two paid members of staff, and the organization as a whole that we were able to gain this esteemed standard”.

QPM – IMCA

Rochdale and District Mind’s Advocacy in Mind project were the first in the Country to attain Action for Advocacy’s Quality Performance Mark for the quality provision of their Advocacy services. In January 2012 Rochdale and District Mind were able to add to this by achieving the Quality Performance Mark for their Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) service. Rochdale and District Mind are now one of only five organizations across the country to have achieved both of these highly regarded quality standards.

Tricia Hornby said:

I am really proud of the achievements that staff and volunteers at Rochdale and District Mind make on a daily basis.  To have national recognition of our services is the icing on the cake and we hope to continue to make these available to people who need them - when they need them.
