We are Rochdale and District Mind, a local charity who, celebrated their 30th Anniversary in 2018, have been providing mental health services for people living in the Borough of Rochdale. We also provide Advocacy service (including local Hospitals and in the community).
We are a local charity and membership organisation. We provide a range of services to support people with mental health and wellbeing issues. Our services are designed by people with lived experience for service users. We are focused on wellbeing and recovery, and supporting people to lead fulfilling lives.
We are not the same as National Mind but we are affiliated to them. This means that we work with Mind nationally but we are independent. We raise our own funds and provide the support that is needed locally in the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale area.
We do this by offering a wide range of information, support and services which are co-designed in response to local needs. In addition we support local strategic developments that support the wellbeing of people who live and work in the area.
What people have said about Rochdale and District Mind and its services
Such a friendly place where I can really be myself
I’ve realised that I’m not alone and I have somewhere to go that can help. I’ve learned to try and face things rather than run away
I feel I understand more of what has happened to me, and my anxiety and how to break my goals down into bite-sized portions
It’s been good meeting different people, realising I do have a role to play and I’m not useless or worthless. It’s given me a reason to get up and go out. I have more confidence and can achieve goals
The Growth Project and Compleat Café have helped me to come out of my self-imposed hibernation and the Counselling has helped me deal with my depression.
Thank you for all the help, support and counselling you have given to our son over recent months. He has put a lot of effort into reading relevant literature and listening to the CDs you have recommended. He has also taken up serious exercise and seems to have developed a more positive attitude to life. It is good to have the reassurance that he can contact Mind again should he ever go through a particularly difficult period in the future. Thank you again.
Example of a Service User’s Journey with Rochdale and District Mind
John’s Story (John is not his real name)
John came to Rochdale and District Mind after many years of alcohol dependency and mental health issues mainly anxiety and depression. John had suffered many failed relationships, and was separated from his family. John’s anxiety was increased when visiting anywhere unfamiliar which contributed to his isolation and lack of confidence and low self esteem. He was very anxious on his first visit to the Compleat project and was unsure of what he wanted to achieve but knew that life could be better.
After only being on a project for a short time John managed to gain some confidence to develop some social connections and managed to go on a visit to his family. John feels that the supportive environment and dealing with customers has helped to reduce his anxiety, build his confidence and self esteem.
