Listening Lounge

What is the Listening Lounge?

A safe, non-clinical support space where everyone aged 18+ can get support for their mental health and wellbeing outside of normal working hours. Both locations provide a free walk-in or referral service that is run by wellbeing workers and volunteers from Rochdale and District Mind, in partnership with local NHS services.

Where and When?

Rochdale

 

The Mind Wellbeing Centre, 3-11 Drake Street, Rochdale, OL16 1RE

Mondays & Wednesdays 4:30pm until 7:30pm

Tuesdays 12pm until 3pm

Saturdays 1:30pm until 4:30pm

Middleton

Middleton Wellbeing Centre & Café, 14a-16 Wood Street, Middleton, M24 5TF

Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:30pm until 7:30pm

Session Objectives

The Listening Lounge provides a safe, welcoming and therapeutic environment to support individuals who are experiencing emotional distress and in crisis. 

The objectives for the service will be to:

  • Provide a space for those who are experiencing mental distress or feel they are in crisis but not acutely unwell.
  • Provide immediate short-term support outside of typical service opening hours.
  • Provide a safe and calm environment to support patients through the delivery of brief interventions.
  • Provide a meaningful alternative to hospital admission
  • Formulate a wellbeing personalised care plan.
  • Provide appropriate referral or signposting to existing services the following day.
  • Support access to and signpost to relevant provisions to manage social stressors.
Session Aims
  • Prevent escalation of mental health problems to avoid a mental health crisis
  • Prevent unnecessary referrals to secondary mental health services, A&E departments and other emergency out of hours services
  • Improve mental health and wellbeing
  • Increase independence and self-management
  • Help to identify groups, organisations and opportunities in the community that can support people in building social networks and develop coping skills to prevent mental health crises in the future

Social Café

Looking to get out of the house for a few hours, have a brew and meet new people?

Our social café drop-in sessions are the perfect opportunity to meet new people, learn new things and talk about topics that interest you!

Where and When?

Rochdale

Tuesdays 10am until 12pm

Middleton

Middleton Wellbeing Centre & Café, 14a-16 Wood Street, Middleton, M24 5TF

Mondays 1pm until 3pm

Group Objectives
  • Reduce loneliness by getting out of the house and meeting new people
  • Talk about your interests, likes and dislikes
  • Meet others who are interested in the same things as yourself
  • Take part in the weekly quiz, produced and performed by our very own Peer Support Volunteer, with new questions every week!
  • Enjoy free hot and cold drinks and sometimes biscuits and cake!

Monday Welcome

Wanting to get help with your mental health but don’t know where to turn?

Our Monday welcome is a great place to start! Drop in and learn more about our services and groups, pick up a timetable of our services and when they take place and take the opportunity to speak to one of our Wellbeing Coordinators directly about how you are feeling.

BAME Women’s Social Café

Looking for a social group for those in ethnically diverse communities? 

Our BAME Women’s Social Café provides support to those wanting to make new friends and to speak about their mental health and emotional wellbeing in languages they feel most comfortable speaking.
