Relaxation Sessions
FREE sessions
Our fast-paced society with its demands and pressures can cause people to push their minds and bodies to the limit, often to detriment of our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. Relaxation techniques are helpful tools to help cope with stress and anxiety and lead to the promotion of overall long-term health.
Relaxation slows the body down and quietens the mind. The technique used is called ‘Progressive Muscle Relaxation. It involves slowly tensing and then releasing each muscle group in the body, starting with the muscles in the toes and finishing with those in the head. It encourages people to ‘be in the present’ moment and take ‘time out’ to focus on the wellbeing of their body and mind.
This session is part of our Women only Wednesday, where we have created a safe space for all who identify as female to visit our Wellbeing Centre.
Venue: The Mind Wellbeing Centre
3-11 Drake Street
Rochdale
OL16 1RE
The approximate average attendance for the group is 6/7 people. You can choose whether to sit down on a chair or lie down on a mat (mats are provided). You are welcome to bring a blanket to cover yourself and/ or a cushion for your head or feet. You are welcome to remove your shoes to aid your relaxation.
The session lasts approximately 45 minutes. The facilitator will talk you through a guided relaxation where you’ll be asked to tense and relax your muscles, concentrate on your breathing and repeat some affirmations. It is beneficial to close your eyes but this is not necessary if you do not feel comfortable with this.
The relaxation sessions start promptly at the time detailed. You need to turn up before that time in order to get settled and ready. The facilitator closes the door when the class is due to start – after that people are not allowed in so as not to disrupt the group.
These sessions will run for 12 weeks.
