Our award winning Growth Project works in partnership with Hourglass to provide a safe and supportive haven at our allotment.

Kindly supported by the Intregrated Care Board.

Our proven track record shows the improvement of an individual’s wellbeing, alongside collective social outlook of those engaged on the project. The project aims to promote good mental and physical wellbeing through outdoor activity in a green environment.

On your first visit to the project, our Wellbeing Coordinator will meet you and spend some time during the day to find out the best ways in which we can support you personally. You will also be given a full induction by our on site horticultural expert.

People who are engaged on the project will have a safe and supportive haven to come to, but most of all we have lots of fun while we work!  For many people their Mental and physical health has improved and a number of these have returned to mainstream housing and regular employment.

Our allotment has been judged “Outstanding” by the Royal Horticultural Society’s ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ Award for North West In Bloom. We are part of the National Garden Scheme. The Scheme opens gardens in England and Wales for charity (For more information please see www.ngs.org.uk).

Why gardening?

Gardening can be a wonderful way to boost your mental wellbeing. It can offer-

  • Stress relief – Spending time in nature and focusing on nurturing plants can help reduce stress and anxiety.

  • Mindfulness – Gardening encourages you to be present, slowing down and appreciating the moment.

  • Sense of accomplishment – Watching something grow because of your care can bring a feeling of achievement.

  • Physical activity – Getting your hands dirty and moving around helps release endorphins, which can improve your mood.

  • Connection with nature – Being outdoors and surrounded by greenery has been shown to have a calming effect.

  • Creativity and expression – Designing and tending to a garden allows for creativity and personal expression.

  • Social benefits – Gardening at the Growth Project is a shared activity, making it a great opportunity to connect with others in the community.
